In part two Boyington receives permission to break off from bomber escorts and go on "sweeps" pursuing Japanese zeros, which turn into huge air battles. Boyington is shot down, and survives 18 months in Japanese prison camps. Fred Avey describes life in camp in the Solomon islands and the hardships endured. The war ends and Pappy returns a hero.
